Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1952 I have completed several art courses through Saint Francis Xavier University Continuing Education including jewellery with Kim Mitman, Watercolor painting with Ron Hazell and Anna Syperek, oil painting with Vicki MacLean and etching courses also with Anna Syperek.
My metal sculpting has evolved from past experience in welding and metal fabrication projects coupled with other art interests and a desire to experiment in various means of expression. Jewellery courses help to expand these expressions with more techniques and other metals, such as copper, silver and bronze.
My wood sculptures are derived from spruce gauls which are collected while working in the woods. Their unique structure, grain and characteristics make them both interesting and challenging to work.
I am currently showing at Lyghtesome Gallery in Antigonish, Sunset Gallery in Cheticamp and his home/studio in Heatherton. I also had a solo exhibition at the Saint Francis Xavier University Gallery in 1992.
In the past I have shown by my work at Manuge-Hollis Gallery in Halifax, Liscomb Lodge, Gallery 448 in New Glasgow , and the Soldier’s Memorial Hospital in Middleton. I have also participated in several shows sponsored by the Port Hastings Historical Society, as well as Progressions Shows at Saint Francis Xavier University. My work was also displayed as part of the “Group of Five” Show in 1987 at the Royal George in Antigonish, and in a show of the Antigonish Artists Association at the Bergengren Credit Union in 1991. |
