When the people from Rum and Muck, cleared by MacLean of Cull,
came over in1828 most of the good lands were gone. Some of the
MacKinnons who landed at Lake Ainslie left there for “religious
reasons” to settle at Bay St. Lawrence. A number of pipers were among
this group. In an ill-advised scheme, the government tried to re-
settle these people to a “less remote” area in the 1960’s. Many resisted.

Nuair a chaidh muinntir Eilean nam Muc is Ruma fhògradh le
MacGillEathain Chola agus a thainig iad a nall an 1828, bha a’chuid a
b’fhearr de’n fhearann air a ghabhail. Dh’fhàg cuid de Chloinn
Fhionghuin a thainig chun na Lèige agus thog iad orra gu
Camus an Naoimh Labhrain—‘air sgàth creideimh.’ Bha grunn
phìobairean nam measg. Mu thimcheall 1960, dh’fhiach an Riaghaltas
ri’n ath-shuidheachadh ann an àite nach biodh cho iomallach. Dhiùlt
mòran a dhol ris an sgeama chearbaich seo.
