Bachelor Charlie Joe MacLean lived in this house, the family home, up
until his death in 1980. As is evident in the painting, there are no power
lines to the house set in just off the Mabou Coal Mines road near Alex
Rory Beaton’s home. At Charley Joe’s funeral, a winter storm caused the
electricity to go out during the service. It was remarked that by choice,
he had no power in life and it was fitting that fate would have it that he
not have any in death.

igh Thearlaich Eòis MhicGillEathain:- bha am fleasgach seo a’fuireach ‘san t-seann
dachaidh gus an do dh’eug e an 1980. Mar a chi sibh ‘san dealbh, chan eil loidhnichean
dealain a’dol chun an tighe a tha dìreach beagan far Rathad nam Mèinean faisg air tigh
Alasdair Ruairidh Pheutain. Aig seirbheis tòrraidh Eòis, chailleadh an dealan ri linn
stoirm gheamhraidh. Cha do ròghnaich e an dealan feadh a bheatha agus chaidh a radh
gun robh e freagarrach nach biodh e’n dàn sin a bhith aige na bhàs.
