The annual Festive Christmas Art Show opens at Lyghtesome Gallery, 166 Main
St., Antigonish, N.S. this week, featuring recent pottery, paintings, etchings
and sculpture by gallery artists, including new work by Joe Arsenault, Sara
Avmaat, Darren Bennett, Kate Brown, Louise Chisholm, Janet Doble, Ruth Greenlaw,
Alice Hoskins, Linda Johns, John Levangie, Gillian McCulloch, Brenda MacFarlane,
Vicki Maclean, Paul Price, Sally Ravindra, Felicity Redgrave, Julia Redgrave,
Alice Reed, William Rogers, Kath and Robert Rutherford, Nancy Stevens, and
Anna Syperek.
Of special note this year are the watercolour paintings of William Rogers,
a Nova Scotian artist from Cape Breton who has just joined the Antigonish
artist community, the result of his wife Joanne accepting a teaching appointment
in the Nursing Department at St. Francis Xavier University this fall. William
Rogers’ award winning watercolours have been exhibited with the Canadian
Society of Painters in Watercolour, the Colonie Art League, the Louisiana
Watercolour Society, the Midwest Watercolour Society, the Societe Canadienne
de l’Aquarelle, Watercolour Art Society – Houston, Texas among
others. His work may be found in many private, corporate, and public collections,
including the N.S. Art Bank. Rogers’ training began with fine arts courses
in university and continued with years of self study and professional workshops.
His subjects vary from landscape to figures and horses. He has exhibited at
Lyghtesome Gallery for over five years and is represented by numerous other
galleries in Eastern Canada, as well as his own summer studio gallery on the
Cabot Trail in Cape Breton. William Rogers is offering a weekend workshop
in watercolour from Dec. 7 – 9th at St. Francis Xavier University Art
