Pangnirtung Portfolio: Arctic Landscapes
Mythic elements of the great northern environment - wild creatures, plantlife, weather and landscape - combine with Judith Leidls affinity for texture and textile design in this collection of rhythmic and colourful relief prints produced while Leidl served as Visiting Artist at the Pangnirtung Print Shop,Pangnirtung, Nunavut, in August/July 2003. An accomplished artist, printmaker, art educator and consultant, Judith J. Leidl has been a professor at Acadia University, Wolfville, N.S. since 1998 and a printmaking instructor in the Continuing Education at NSCAD, Halifax, N.S. since 1986. Her work has been exhibited in Japan, Taiwan, The British Isles, several Eastern European countries, as well as across the Maritimes and the rest of Canada. Besides a long-time association as Instructor in the Printmaking Program with the Nunavut Arctic College in Pangnirtung, she also served as marketing consultant for the Uqqurmiut Centre for Arts and Crafts, in Pangnirtung in 2003 and is currently heading up to Pangnirtung at the end of this month to serve a third year as Artistic Advisor for the Pangnirtung Community Print Collection.
